Short answer: betting on BKFC is legal in a state only when two separate approvals line up. The state has to permit sports wagering, and the state's gaming regulator has to carry BKFC in its approved wagering catalog. Louisiana and Nebraska both list BKFC by name. Everywhere else has to be checked against that state's own catalog, because those catalogs are revised continuously.
This page covers one thing: wagering on a sanctioned bare-knuckle event through a licensed sportsbook. It does not cover gambling on underground or unsanctioned fights. Those are two different legal questions and they have opposite answers:
- Sanctioned. A BKFC card licensed by a state athletic commission, priced by a book that holds a licence in your state, bet by someone of legal age physically located in that state. Regulated activity.
- Unsanctioned. A backyard show, a warehouse card, a fight nobody licensed. No commission, no licensed operator, no catalog entry. Money staked on one of those is ordinary illegal gambling, and that market is covered at Underground Fight Betting. Nothing below applies to the second category.
The Two Locks
Most pages on this subject treat "is BKFC legal" and "is BKFC bettable" as the same question. Two different agencies answer them, working from two different lists.

Both locks have to be open for a regulated wager, but they do not open together and they do not track each other. A state can license BKFC events and still keep BKFC out of its wagering catalog. A state can approve BKFC as a wagerable market while never hosting a card.
The first lock is open across much of the country. BKFC has been fighting under commission sanction since June 2018, when the Wyoming commission licensed what was reported as the first state-sanctioned bare-knuckle event in the United States since 1889. Events have since run under the commissions in Mississippi, Florida, Colorado, Montana, Kansas and Pennsylvania, among others. What a Wagering Catalog Is
Every state with legal sports betting maintains a list of what its licensed operators are allowed to price. Colorado's regulator describes its catalog as containing every approved bet authorized by the commission, with only bets in the catalog permitted in the state. Massachusetts runs the same function under 205 CMR 247.01, Authorized and Prohibited Sporting Events and Wager Categories. Indiana, Tennessee, Louisiana and Nebraska each publish their own version.
If a promotion is not in the catalog, a licensed book cannot take your money on it. Not because the book disapproves of the sport, but because doing so would breach its licence. Operators can petition the regulator to add an event, which is how new leagues reach these lists at all.
The important structural detail is what catalogs actually enumerate. They list sanctioning bodies, not individual fights. BKFC appears on them by name, alongside the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO, the British Boxing Board of Control, the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports, Most Valuable Promotions, and state athletic commissions. In catalog terms, BKFC sits in the same column as the bodies that sanction world title fights, which is what getting licensed as a sanctioned promotion under commission-recognised rules bought it. No affiliate ranking gives a promotion that; a regulator filing does.
That the entry names a sanctioning body rather than a fight has a consequence nobody spells out. Once BKFC is in a state's catalog, an individual card does not need its own approval, so whether a numbered card gets priced in an approved state is a question about the sportsbook rather than the regulator. The approval also does not travel. Another bare-knuckle promotion needs its own line in that catalog, and not having one is a separate problem from not being sanctioned.
Which States Are Verified to List BKFC
We checked regulator documents directly rather than repeating affiliate lists. Two states are confirmed. The rest we will not claim either way.

Four rows is a thinner answer than the state-by-state lists on affiliate sites, and it is the honest one. The one dedicated list we found is dated February 2025, marks seventeen states plus Ontario and Puerto Rico as approved, and cites no regulator document behind any of them. Catalogs are live files: Louisiana's was on its seventy-seventh revision by mid-2026. Any frozen list of bettable states is wrong within months, this one included, which is why the table carries a date and points at the source.
Nevada Shows the Two Locks Coming Apart
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has not sanctioned BKFC, which makes Nevada the most prominent state the promotion has not been allowed into. That is a fact about the first lock and says nothing directly about the second. Whether a Nevada-licensed sportsbook may take a wager on a BKFC card held elsewhere runs through the Gaming Control Board's Regulation 22, which covers race books and sports pools and requires an operator filing before wagers are offered on events other than horse racing, greyhound racing and athletic sports events. We could not confirm BKFC's status on Nevada's approved list. If you are in Nevada, ask the Gaming Control Board directly.
Two agencies run two processes, and neither one is obliged to match the other.
Where the Fight Is Held Can Matter Too
Nebraska's approval carries a condition worth reading twice: BKFC is authorized for North America and UK events only.
BKFC runs cards well outside that boundary. Alongside its US and UK calendar the promotion has staged events in Mexico, Thailand, Bulgaria, Italy and the UAE. Under a geographically scoped approval, a card in Bangkok may sit outside what a licensed book in that state can price, even though the promotion itself is approved.

So the eligibility test has three inputs rather than two: where you are, where the sportsbook is licensed, and where the fight is happening. Most guides only mention the first.
Offshore Books Sidestep the Catalog Entirely
Offshore sportsbooks run their own bare-knuckle pages and post BKFC lines on them. They can, because the catalog mechanism does not reach them: no state licence, no state catalog entry, no US gaming regulator above them. An approved-events list constrains operators who applied to be on it, and offshore books never applied.
Their position in the United States is legally gray rather than legal, and the gray falls on the bettor too. Your own exposure depends on the state you are in, statutes differ on how they treat the individual player, and a state gaming regulator will answer that directly. What is not in question is that no US regulator has authority over the account, the balance in it, or a bet the book decides to void. This page describes that route rather than recommending it. Where Kalshi and Polymarket Sit Legally
An independent odds comparison for a BKFC card lists Kalshi and Polymarket in the same columns as the sportsbooks. Both are CFTC-registered event-contract exchanges rather than state-licensed sportsbooks, which puts them outside the catalog system for a different reason than offshore books: they are federally registered, and the fight is over whether that federal registration displaces state gambling law.
That argument is live litigation. On 6 April 2026 the Third Circuit affirmed, 2 to 1, a preliminary injunction barring New Jersey from enforcing state gambling law against Kalshi, holding that its sports event contracts are swaps under the Commodity Exchange Act and federally preempted. A Massachusetts Superior Court judge had gone the other way in January 2026, enjoining Kalshi from offering sports contracts to in-state users, and a federal court in Middle Tennessee granted Kalshi an injunction in February. The CFTC proposed new prediction-market rules in June 2026; Baltimore has sued both exchanges.
That is where it stood on 16 August 2026 and it will not stay there. One federal appellate court has ruled, trial courts disagree with each other, and the federal rulemaking is open. This page will not tell you whether a prediction market is legal for you, because nobody can say that today without knowing your state.
Age, Location, and the Rest of the Test
Even with both locks open, a regulated wager still has to clear the ordinary eligibility conditions.
- Age. 21 or older in most US states with legal sports betting. The UK threshold is 18.
- Physical location. Licensed apps geolocate you. Residency in an approved state is not enough; you have to be inside it when the bet is placed.
- Professional status. Of 32 states with legal sports wagering in one legislative survey, 19 plus DC restrict wagering on amateur or local collegiate competition. BKFC is professional and clears that bar. Amateur bare-knuckle and toughman-style shows generally do not, which is most of the reason Rough N Rowdy is not lined at regulated books.

How to Read Your Own State's Catalog
- Find your state gaming regulator's wagering catalog. Search it for "bare knuckle" or "BKFC". Catalogs are public and most are a single PDF.
- Note the date and any conditions. A geographic scope like Nebraska's changes the answer for international cards.
- If BKFC is absent, that is not permanent. Operators petition to add events and lists get revised. Absence today means no licensed line today, not no licensed line ever.
- Ask the regulator, not an affiliate. State gaming commissions answer this directly, and state athletic commissions answer the sanctioning half.

Is BKFC bettable in every state that allows sports betting?
